# A region-specific locale is declared

How the A region-specific locale is declared check works, what a failure means, and how to fix it in the International Readiness dimension.

- Dimension: International Readiness (3% of the total score)
- This check: 1 point
- Check id: `lang-region`

## What does this check look at?

A language tag carrying a region subtag appears in <html lang>, in og:locale or in an hreflang attribute - for example en-GB, en_GB or de-AT. A bare language such as "en" does not satisfy this; that is what html-lang checks.

## How do I fix it?

- Declare a region where it matters, for example lang="en-GB", og:locale="en_GB" or hreflang="de-AT".

## Why is it worth 1 points?

Low for a single-market site, and the first thing to fix if you serve more than one language.

## What else is measured in this dimension?

- [Alternate language versions are declared](https://geo-scanner.ccie13192.com/checks/hreflang/) — 2 points
